The Audit Prep Phase: How EvidenceIQ Validates Audit Readiness Before Fieldwork Starts
Within A-SCEND, A-LIGN’s audit management platform, there are three stages to the audit process: Â
- Audit Intelligence: the preparation done before fieldwork beginsÂ
- Audit Execution: when the auditor is actively engaged, testing evidence, and reporting findingsÂ
- Audit Expansion:Â when you begin the process of adding new frameworks to your compliance strategyÂ
Most first-time compliance teams spend the first stage gathering documentation and uploading evidence to a portal, with no way to know if that evidence is ready. They find out in the second stage, when a gap takes longer to fix, or can’t be fixed at all.
EvidenceIQ, a feature within A-SCEND, moves readiness validation into the Audit Intelligence phase. It gives teams a way to know whether their evidence is ready before the auditor reviews it.
The friction in preparing for an audit for the first time
A one-person or small compliance function usually has no benchmark for “good enough,” and no way to catch gaps before the auditor flags them.
The preparation work gets done, but teams often don’t know whether what they submitted actually answers what the auditor is asking. That surfaces mid-fieldwork, when they get follow-up questions instead of a completed item. By then, the timeline has already slipped, and the cost isn’t just the rework. It’s the wasted cycles, the missed deadlines, and the time teams can’t get back.
What EvidenceIQ does
EvidenceIQ evaluates whether submitted evidence is likely to satisfy a request before the audit begins. It reviews every piece of evidence against the specific request criteria and assigns a confidence score (high, medium, or low) based on how well that evidence matches what’s being asked.
Teams see, request by request, where they’re strong and where they’re weak. Gaps and mismatches surface during prep, while there’s still time to address them.
How low-confidence items get solved
Confidence scoring only matters if a team knows what to do with it. Here’s what that looks like in practice:
- EvidenceIQ flags the mismatch: When a report is run, EvidenceIQ assigns a confidence score, along with an explanation and which part of the request the evidence doesn’t fully address.Â
- Flag the gap to your team: Give your teams the ability to address the gap.Â
- Resolve before fieldwork: Have the ability to upload alternative evidence, and rerun EvidenceIQ to confirm the new evidence has a high confidence score.Â
An auditor encountering insufficient evidence for the first time triggers a follow-up, but if that evidence has already been identified and explained, the auditor can evaluate the explanation and move on.
What changes once fieldwork starts
The value of the work done in the Audit Intelligence phase shows up in the Audit Execution phase.
A request closed by the auditor on the first review is finished, but if that request needs a follow-up, that’s where timelines slip. The auditor has to wait for an answer, and the compliance team gets pulled back into work they thought was finished.
Teams that go into fieldwork with requests already scored, gaps already flagged, and open items already explained have set up a foundation for the audit to run smoothly and keep the timeline on track.
What “ready” actually means
With EvidenceIQ, readiness stops being a feeling and becomes a measurable state that teams can assess before the audit begins.
Every request gets mapped to evidence, every confidence score gets reviewed and understood, and every flagged gap is either addressed or escalated with more context for the auditor.
That’s the readiness picture EvidenceIQ provides. Learn more about A-SCEND and its features here. Â
